Guests. Welcome to Zion. We are happy to have you worship with us. Please sign our guestbook located in the Narthex. About Holy Communion: We welcome to the Lord’s Table all who have repented of their sins and seek to amend their sinful life; all who believe that Jesus is truly present in, with, and under the bread and the wine; and all who believe that through the words “given and shed for you” forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation are given. If this is your confession and you are a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, then come with a thankful heart and join us. If you are a visitor and would like to commune, please talk with Pastor Dan before the service. To help in preparing to receive Holy Communion open the front cover of the Burgundy hymnal or turn to pages 329 & 330. Gluten free wafers are available, please talk with an Elder or Pastor before the service if you would appreciate them.
As We Gather Today we celebrate and give God praise and thanks for its 250 years of freedom. Freedom made possible in part by those men and women who were willing to serve our nation. Our nation’s freedom came at great cost to those who signed our Declaration of Independence. It came at a great cost, to those who fought for our country and came home and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice and did not come home. We also remember on this day, that ultimately, we are nation that is free by God’s blessing alone. A freedom, we His children know all too well. We know the freedom He alone can give through grace in Jesus Christ, His Son, our Lord. Freedom which did not come freely or without great cost. Our freedom cost our Savior His life as He shed His innocent blood in our place. Today we celebrate our nations freedom and our freedom from sin in Christ the Lord!

Pledge of Allegiance to the Christian Flag
I pledge allegiance to the Christian Flag and to The Savior for whose Kingdom it stands. One Savior, crucified, risen, and coming again with life and liberty to all who believe.
Hymn “Before You, Lord, We Bow” LSB 966
Invocation – In the name of the Father and of the X Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
Opening Sentences – Psalm 119:41–48 – Let Your steadfast love come to me, O Lord, Your salvation according to Your promise; then shall I have an answer for him who taunts me, for I trust in Your word. And take not the word of truth out of my mouth, for my hope is in Your just decrees. I will keep Your law continually, forever and ever, and I shall walk in a wide place, for I have sought Your precepts. I will also speak of Your testimonies before kings and shall not be put to shame, for I find my delight in Your commandments, which I love. I will lift up my hands toward Your commandments, which I love, and I will meditate on Your statutes.
Confession and Absolution Philippians 1:6; 2:7–8 – All: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Your people, O God, were a rebellious people in Ezekiel’s day. We, too, have rebelled against Your good and gracious will. We have sinned against You in our thoughts, words, and actions. Forgive us, O Lord, and open our hearts to live according to Your Will and give You praise in all we do. In great love, God sends His word of mercy and forgiveness in Christ, His Son. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, I therefore forgive you all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the X Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
KYRIE – In peace, let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. For peace in our hearts and calm in our nation, let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. For peace among nations, growth in the one true Church around the world, unity in the one true faith, and for the proclaiming of Christ and the life He gives by, and among all believers, let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. For those who are gathered here today, and all the members of Zion, let us pray to the Lord. Heal us according to our needs. Help us in our weakness, comfort us in setbacks, and defend us from all evil, gracious Lord. Amen.
Prayer of the Day – Gracious and ever-loving God, we thank and praise You for the freedom we have in You and also the freedom we celebrate today in our nation. As Your grace has been sufficient for Your people throughout all time, grant that it be sufficient for us as well, remind us always that Your power is made perfect in our weaknesses as we look away from ourselves, to You for all things of body and soul; We come to You in prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Old Testament Reading – Zechariah 9:9-12 – Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. I will take away the chariots from Ephraim and the warhorses from Jerusalem, and the battle bow will be broken. He will proclaim peace to the nations. His rule will extend from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth. As for you, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will free your prisoners from the waterless pit. Return to your fortress, you prisoners of hope; even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you.
Epistle – Romans 7:14-25 – We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do, this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.
Holy Gospel – Matthew 11:25-30 – The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew the 11th Chapter. Glory to You, O Lord. At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do. “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to You, O Christ.
Apostles’ Creed – I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Sermon
Prayers of the Church
The Lord’s Prayer – Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Service of the Sacrament
Preface – The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give Him thanks and praise.
Proper Preface – It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who overcame death and the grave, and by His glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. Therefore, with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and singing:
Sanctus LSB 178
Prayer of Thanksgiving – Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on those whom You created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to bear our sin and be our Savior. With repentant joy we receive the salvation accomplished for us by the all-availing sacrifice of His body and His blood on the cross. Gathered in the name and the remembrance of Jesus, we beg You, O Lord, to forgive, renew, and strengthen us with Your Word and Spirit. Grant us faithfully to eat His body and drink His blood as He asks us to do in His own testament. Graciously receive our prayers; deliver and preserve us. To You alone, O Father, be all glory, honor, and worship, with the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen

All: We thank You, Lord, for You have again fed and nourished us on our way through this world to our heavenly home prepared and waiting for us. Guide us in living out Your grace until that day when we experience it in all of its fullness; through Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Closing Hymn: National Anthem
O say can you see, by the dawn’s early light, What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last gleaming, Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight, O’er the ramparts we watch’d were so gallantly streaming. And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there, O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave, O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand, Between their lov’d home and the war’s desolation! Blest with vict’ry and peace may the heav’n rescued land, Praise the power that hath made and preserv’d us a nation! Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, And this be our motto – “In God is our trust,” And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave, O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
