Guests. Welcome to Zion. We are happy to have you worship with us. Please sign our guestbook located in the Narthex. About Holy Communion: We welcome to the Lord’s Table all who have repented of their sins and seek to amend their sinful life; all who believe that Jesus is truly present in, with, and under the bread and the wine; and all who believe that through the words “given and shed for you” forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation are given. If this is your confession and you are a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, then come with a thankful heart and join us. If you are a visitor and would like to commune, please talk with Pastor Dan before the service. To help in preparing to receive Holy Communion open the front cover of the Burgundy hymnal or turn to pages 329 & 330. Gluten free wafers are available, please talk with an Elder or Pastor before the service if you would appreciate them.
As We Gather It often seems that life is a debate about the things we do not know. What is truth? What is right and wrong? Where is God? None of those questions are theoretical and all of them are answered in Christ, whom we know as Savior and Redeemer. The Law reveals the depth of our need and our sinful hearts. Christ makes known the love of the Father. Gathered in worship, we meet where Christ is—in His Word and Sacraments. Faith is not about what we do not know but about what we do know. Christ is our all. He fulfills the promise of the Old Testament and completes our redemption. We confess Him who came, who comes to us now through the means of grace, and who will come again to deliver us to the Father. To know Christ is to know everything.
Ringing of the Bell and Welcome
Hymn “We Sing the Praise of Him Who Died” LSB 429
Opening Sentences Psalm 95 – Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
Invocation – In the name of the Father and of the X Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Confession – As the psalmist declares, the Lord searches us, knows us, is ever-present with us, and leads us. He listens to us as we speak to Him, confess our sins to Him and ask for His forgiveness. Let us confess our sins to God our Father. All: “The LORD is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.” We confess, heavenly Father, that we often choose not to call on You in times of need, or in times of thanksgiving. We fail to take the opportunity to pray to You and give You all praise, and glory. Forgive us. We confess, heavenly Father, that in our days of trouble we rely on ourselves and not You. We seek deliverance through our own devices, and peace through the temporary offerings of this world. Forgive us. We confess, heavenly Father, we are the ones who walk away from You, even though You are near to us in Your Word, care, and protection. Our unrepentant sins of thought, word, and deed separate us from You. For the sake of Jesus Christ, Your Son our Lord, forgive us all our sins and restore us in Your grace and love. Amen
Absolution – (We hear God’s forgiveness of the sins we just confessed to) – Upon this your confession, I as a called and ordained servant of the Word, Jesus Christ, announce His grace unto you, and in the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the X Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Psalm of the Day – Psalm 95 – Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah, as on the day at Massah in the wilderness, when your fathers put me to the test and put me to the proof, though they had seen my work. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
Kyrie LSB 168 – In peace let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. For the peace from above and for our salvation let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. For the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the Church of God, and for the unity of all let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. For this holy house and for all who offer here their worship and praise let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. Help, save, comfort, and defend us, gracious Lord. Amen.
Salutation – The Lord be with you. And also with you.
Prayer of the Day – O God, whose glory it is always to have mercy, be gracious to all who have gone astray from Your ways and bring them again with penitent hearts and steadfast faith to embrace and hold fast the unchangeable truth of Your Word; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen
Old Testament Reading – Exodus 17:1-7 – The whole Israelite community set out from the Desert of Sin, traveling from place to place as the LORD commanded. They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink. So they quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses replied, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the LORD to the test?” But the people were thirsty for water there, and they grumbled against Moses. They said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die of thirst?” Then Moses cried out to the LORD, “What am I to do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.” The LORD answered Moses, “Go out in front of the people. Take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go. I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel. And he called the place Massah and Meribah because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested the LORD saying, “Is the LORD among us or not?”
Epistle or New Testament Reading – Romans 5:1-8 – Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Verse – The hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. O come, let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Holy Gospel – John 4:5-26 – The Holy Gospel according St. John, the third chapter. Glory to You, O Lord. So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon. When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.) The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.) Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?” Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.” He told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.” “I have no husband,” she replied. Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband. The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.” “Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet. Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem. “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.” This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to You, O Christ.
Apostles’ Creed – I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayers of the Church
The Lord’s Prayer – Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Preface 2 Timothy 4:22 – The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give Him thanks and praise. Prayer of Thanksgiving – Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on those whom You created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to bear our sin and be our Savior. With repentant joy we receive the salvation accomplished for us by the all-availing sacrifice of His body and His blood on the cross. Grant us faithfully to eat His body and drink His blood as He bids us do in His own testament. Graciously receive our prayers; deliver and preserve us. To You alone, O Father, be all glory, honor, and worship, with the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Post-Communion Thanksgiving – Lord God, heavenly Father, You have called Your church to worship Your Son in spirit and truth. You have fed and nourished us with the Word of life and the body and blood of our Savior. By Your Holy Spirit, keep us faithful to Him who is the way, the truth, and the life, so that we may be partakers of His divine life and inherit the Kingdom promised for those who drink from the water of life; through Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Benediction Numbers 6:24–26 – The Lord, who calls Your name, bless you and keep you. The Lord, who has bought you at a price, make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. A THANK YOU from Pella Lutheran Church in Waupun…
Approximately 70 people packed over 51,000 Mercy Meals on February 28th. These meals were shipped to Orphan Grain Train in Westfield and some of them have already been shipped out to Liberia. Thank you for your prayers and continue to pray that the people who need help (coming via these shipments) will be able to receive it as deliveries into some countries is getting harder and more costly. Thank you to all that helped.
