Welcome and Happy Easter to all who are worshiping at Zion this morning!

GuestsWe are happy to have you worship with us.  Please sign our guestbook located in the Narthex.  About Holy Communion:  We welcome to the Lord’s Table all who have repented of their sins and seek to amend their sinful life; all who believe that Jesus is truly present in, with, and under the bread and the wine; and all who believe that through the words “given and shed for you” forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation are given.  If this is your confession and you are a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, then come with a thankful heart and join us.   If you are a visitor and would like to commune, please talk with Pastor Dan before the service.  To help in preparing to receive Holy Communion open the front cover of the Burgundy hymnal or turn to pages 329 & 330.  Gluten free wafers are available, please talk with an Elder or Pastor before the service if you would appreciate them.

Preparation

We gather in the presence of God to celebrate the most significant event in the history of the world!  The fulfillment of God’s promise to mankind from the beginning!  God’s undoing of the curse of death and it’s cause, sin, through the death and The resurrection of His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ!  That is the death and life have come to celebrate today! Our Lord did not die for Himself.  He died the death of Adam and Eve and of all their descendants.  He died your death and mine.  After three days in a cold tomb of death, He arose in a nail scared body for all to see, ascended and now sits at His Father’s right hand as the living triumphant ruler of the universe.  The fact of His resurrection is the source of our faith, joy, peace and hope!  His victory is assured to all who believe in Him as their Lord and Savior.  Though we still sin and die, through our faith in Jesus, the living Lord, given to us in our Baptism, our sin is forgiven, and He has made our earthly death the gate to our own resurrection unto eternal life with Him in Heaven!

Ringing of the Bell and Welcome

Hymn “Jesus Christ Is Risen Today”       LSB 457

Invocation-In the name of the Father and of the X Son and of the Holy Spirit.    Amen

Opening Sentences-  Christ has risen from the dead.  God the Father has crowned Him with glory and honor.  He has given Him dominion over the works of His hands;   He has put all things under His feet.  “Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O death, where is your victory?  O death, where is your sting?”  The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.  But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.  Alleluia!  Amen

Confession and Absolution – When our heavenly Father accepted Jesus’ sacrifice of Himself for the sins of the world, The Father validated all that our Lord had said about Himself.  Forgiveness is His gift of grace to all who repent of their sins.  Let us go to our Heavenly Father confessing our sin before Him, confident of the grace and mercy He promises in His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.        All:  For all that we have done, loving ourselves more than we loved You or the people around us, forgive us, heavenly Father.  For all that we have said that did not reflect Your great love for us and for all people, when we have failed to show that love to our friends and neighbors, have mercy on us.  For all our thoughts, turned inward and not on You or others, forgive us.  Help us to look to our risen Lord, the author and perfecter of our faith, for the strength to live according to your will.  Heavenly Father, we cannot stop ourselves from sinning, through the Holy Spirit, strengthen us in our faith and in the conviction that because our Lord lives, nothing shall separate us from Your love in the Risen and triumphant Christ Jesus, our Lord.   He Is Risen Indeed!  Alleluia!  Rejoice and be glad children of the heavenly Father!  Our Savior Arose!  The tomb was empty in victory over sin, death and satan.  Upon hearing your confession, as a called and ordained servant of the Risen Lord Jesus Christ, and by His authority, I announce the grace of God unto you and therefore forgive you all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the X Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.  Alleluia! Christ is risen as the Savior of all sin!   Alleluia!

A Reading from the New Testament – Colossians 3:1-4 – Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.  Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.  For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.  When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

 Gloria in Excelsis   LSB 204

Prayer of the day – Heavenly Father, in raising Your Son from death, You showed that nothing can stand between Your powerful love and us sinful human beings.  Grant us growth in grace and faith so that we may daily praise You for the gift of each new day and thank You with all that we have and are; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen

A Reading from the New Testament – Acts 10:34-43 –   Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.  You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.  You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached—how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.  “We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem.  They killed him by hanging him on a cross, but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen.  He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen—by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.  He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead.  All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”

Verse –   Alleluia. Christ Jesus abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.  Alleluia

Holy Gospel – Matthew 28:1–15 – The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew, the twenty-eighth chapter.   Glory to You, O Lord.         After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.  There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.  His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.  The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.  The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.  He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.  Come and see the place where he lay.  Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”  So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples.  Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said.  They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him.  Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid.  Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”  While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened.  When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep.’  If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.”  So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed.  And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day.  This is the Gospel of the Lord.   Praise to You, O Christ.

Apostles’ Creed –    I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.  And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayers of the Church

The Lord’s Prayer –   Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.       Amen.

Choir “Sing A Grateful Alleluia”

* Service of the Sacrament *

Preface   2 Timothy 4:22 – The Lord be with you.  And also with you.  Lift up your hearts.  We lift them to the Lord.  Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.  It is right to give Him thanks and praise.

Prayer of Thanksgiving – Blessed are You, O Lord our God, King of all creation, for You have had mercy on us and given Your only-begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.  In Your infinite love, You sent Him to live as one of us here on earth that He might die for us.  As a faithful subject to Your royal plan, He gave His body and poured out His blood on the cross, the punishment we deserved.  In Your righteousness and almighty power You accepted His sacrifice and raised Him from death to glorious life, the first fruits of those who sleep.  For the life You have given to us now, and the life we will enjoy fully for all eternity, we give You thanks and ask Your Holy Spirit to strengthen us in the conviction that because He lives, we shall live also!  To You, O Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, all praise and honor, now and forever.  Amen

Post-Communion Thanksgiving –    With all our heart, we give thanks and praise to You, almighty and eternal God, for enlightening our minds and opening the eyes of our hearts to hear, see, taste, and believe Your life-giving presence in Your Son, Jesus, our Lord.  Cause the light of Your truth to shine brightly throughout the world through Your Holy Church, through us, and all our brothers and sisters in faith, the people You have gathered for Yourself in grace and love.  Assure us of Your presence as we go on our way and through each day until the faith You have given us will turn to endless joy in heaven with You.  We pray this through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our risen Lord, who reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.   Amen.
