GuestsWelcome to Zion.  We are happy to have you worship with us.  Please sign our guestbook located in the Narthex.  About Holy Communion:  We welcome to the Lord’s Table all who have repented of their sins and seek to amend their sinful life; all who believe that Jesus is truly present in, with, and under the bread and the wine; and all who believe that through the words “given and shed for you” forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation are given.  If this is your confession and you are a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, then come with a thankful heart and join us.   If you are a visitor and would like to commune, please talk with Pastor Dan before the service.  To help in preparing to receive Holy Communion open the front cover of the Burgundy hymnal or turn to pages 329 & 330.  Gluten free wafers are available, please talk with an Elder or Pastor before the service if you would appreciate them.

Ringing of the Bell and Welcome

Hymn  “Alleluia!  Jesus Is Risen!” LSB 474

Invocation – In the name of the Father and of the X Son and of the Holy Spirit.      Amen.

Confession and Absolution    Psalm 32:1–2 – Let us confess our sins unto our gracious Lord.   All:  Almighty God, our Maker and Redeemer, we poor sinners confess unto You that we are by nature sinful and unclean and that we have sinned against You by thought, word, and deed.  Wherefore we flee for refuge to Your infinite mercy, seeking and imploring Your grace for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ. O most merciful God who has given Your only begotten Son to die for us, have mercy upon us and for His sake grant us remission of all our sins; and by Your Holy Spirit increase in us true knowledge of You and of Your will and true obedience to Your Word, to the end that by Your grace we may come to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.   Almighty God has had mercy upon you and has given His only Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins.  In the stead and by the command of our Lord Jesus Christ, I, as a called and ordained servant of the Word, forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the X Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

Hymn of Praise – Gloria in Excelsis         LSB 204

Psalm 23 – The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.  He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.  He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.  Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Prayer of the Day – Almighty God, merciful Father, since You have wakened from death the Shepherd of Your sheep, grant us Your Holy Spirit that when we hear the voice of our Shepherd we may know Him who calls us each by name and follow where He leads; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.     Amen.

New Testament Reading – Acts 2:42-47 – They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.  Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles.  All the believers were together and had everything in common.  They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.  Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts.  They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.  And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

New Testament Reading – 1 Peter 2:19-25 –   For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of God.  But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it?  But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God.  To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.  “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.”  When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats.  Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.  “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”  For “you were like sheep going astray,” but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

Verse – Christ has risen from the dead.  God the Father has crowned him with glory and honor.
He has given him dominion over the works of his hands; he has put all things under his feet.  Alleluia.  I am the good shepherd.  I know my own and my own know me. Alleluia.

Holy Gospel – John 10:1-10 – The Holy Gospel according St. John the tenth chapter.       Glory to You, O Lord.        Jesus said: “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber.  But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.  To him the gatekeeper opens.  The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.  When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.  A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.”  This figure of speech Jesus used with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them.  So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.  All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them.  I am the door.  If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.  The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.  I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”  This is the Gospel of the Lord.   Praise to You, O Christ.

Hymn  “The King of Love My Shepherd Is”       LSB 709

Sermon

Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.  And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayers of the Church

The Lord’s Prayer – Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.   Amen.

We gather our Tithes and Offerings

*Service of the Sacrament*

Proper Preface – It is truly good, wholesome, and proper that we give thanks to You, our gracious heavenly Father, for in Your goodness You have given Your only-begotten Son for our salvation.  By the guiding of Your Spirit, direct our ways that we may follow the Good Shepherd through all of our lives so that we may be gathered at the Table which He has prepared before us.  Grant that we may receive the body and blood of our Lord as a guarantee of our salvation and as a foretaste of the feast to come in the green pastures of Your eternal kingdom.  To You alone, O Father, be all glory, honor, and praise, together with the Son and Holy Spirit, now and forever.  Amen.

Sanctus     LSB 208

Prayer of Thanksgiving – Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on us and have given Your only-begotten Son to be our loving Redeemer and our Good Shepherd.  By Your grace, lead us to remember and give thanks for His sacrificial death and His glorious resurrection that assure salvation to all who believe.  Grant that we may receive the bread and wine, that is, His body and blood as a pledge of His salvation. Graciously receive our prayers and by the power of the Holy Spirit grant that we follow our Good Shepherd now and always.  Amen.

The Words of Our Lord – Consecration of the Elements

Proclamation of Christ  1 Corinthians 11:26; Revelation 22:20 – As often as we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.      Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

Post-Communion Thanksgiving – Almighty and ever living God, our heavenly Father, as part of Your loving plan for us You have again welcomed us at Your Table.  We thank You for the blessings of this Holy Meal.  As the bread was once scattered as seed upon the fields and after being harvested was made one, so let Your church be gathered together into one flock from the ends of the earth until at last we taste the fullness of Your great goodness in Your eternal kingdom, where You live and reign with the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.    Amen.

Benediction      Numbers 6:24–26 – The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and X give you peace.   Amen.
