Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church--Clyman, WI

  • About Us

Who Are Lutherans?

  • Lutherans believe the Bible to be the divinely inspired Word of God and the only authority in the Church (2 Tim. 3:16-17).
  • Lutherans believe in the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) and that these are three persons in one God (Matt. 3:13-17; Matt. 28:19).
  • Lutherans believe Jesus Christ to be the Son of God--100% human (without sin); 100% God (John 1:1-18).
  • Lutherans believe that Christ's great sacrifice of love in dying on the cross accomplishes our salvation and His empty tomb proclaims the crucified Christ's victory to the world (1 Cor. 1:18-31; 1 Cor. 15:51-57).
  • Lutherans believe that all humans are conceived and born sinful and in need of Christ's salvaiton (Ps. 51:5).
  • Lutherans rejoice in God's holy Word and Sacraments (Baptism, Lord's Supper) as the vehicles by which Christ extends His forgiveness of sins and salvation to repentant sinners (Gal. 3:23-27; 1 Cor. 11:17-30).
  • Lutherans recognize that our good works do not save us, but are the free expressions of faith made perfect in love which come from Christ's salvation (Eph. 2:8-10).
  • Lutherans are free--not for themselves, but for acts of love to God and neighbor (Gal. 5:1).

Who We Are

Zion is a congregation of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in Southeast Wisconsin, located directly between Milwaukee and Madison about 8 miles north of Watertown.  We are on Dodge Cty. Hwy. J about .6 mile east of Hwy. 26.  We are located on the intersection of Hwy. J and Main St. in Clyman.

We were formed in 1897 as a local congregation with a Lutheran school.  In 1953, we built a new school building to the west of the church and parsonage.  In the early 1980s, our school closed, but our mission continued.  In 1997, we celebrated our centennial.  In 2002, we demolished the school building with the hope of rebuilding.  In 2009, we made a commitment to building an addition and developing our mission for the 21st century.

Zion wishes to give all glory to Christ while aiming to be a leader in small town/small congregation missions for our area.

We warmly invite you to come and visit us.  We strive to be faithful to the Scriptures as God's holy Word.  We confess Jesus as the Son of God and the only way to salvation.  We rejoice in God's gifts of forgiveness and life in the Word, Baptism, and the Lord's Supper, and we are striving to be a model for other small town small congregaions to follow.
